“The Many Faces of a Tsunami”
Speaker: Dr. Jimmie A. Reese
As we grow numb to all the shootings, weather related tragedies, political instabilities, hate related events and talk, the spreading of a virus and whatever continues to shake our confidence and wear us down with emotional pain and grieve, we need a way to deal with these events. That is what my presentation is designed to accomplish. We shall see.
Jimmie A. Reese is a retired United Methodist Clergy-Professor having served churches in East Texas and Houston. Before entering teaching, he was Pastoral – Director for a 1,000 apartment unit public housing facility in the inner city of Houston.
Dr. Reese graduated from the University of Houston in Philosophy and earned graduate degrees from Texas Southern University in Sociology, St. Mary’s School of Theology, and two Theology degrees from Southern Methodist University including his doctorate.
He has taught at South Texas College in Houston for four years, Lon Morris College in Jacksonville for 39 years prior to its closing, UT Tyler for five years, and continues to teach and administer in a continuing education program of the United Methodist Church for second career adults in ministry.
Dr, Reese continues to speak throughout East Texas in Presbyterian, Episcopal, United Methodist , and Unitarian Universalist churches.
UUFL Board Meeting:
The monthly board meeting will be held at 9 am. Sunday before service. All are welcome to attend. There will be a Closed Executive Session towards the end of the meeting.
Want to be more involved at the Fellowship? There are many different ways to help out: greeting people as they arrive on Sunday morning, helping with the opening and closing tasks, being a Lay Leader………… Talk with any Board member about what is needed and what you are interested in doing.
Next time you’re at the grocery store, pick up an extra can of tuna, jar of peanut butter, bag of rice, can of chili, or any other non-perishable food item and bring it with you to the Fellowship on Sunday, put it in the food basket in the lobby, and I will take it to Longview Community Ministries to help feed the poor and hungry of our community.
We are collecting toiletries for Newgate Mission. Please bring your donations with you to the Fellowship on Sunday, put it in the box in the lobby, and they will be delivered to the mission.
